Police ranks found an unlicensed and loaded .38 revolver while responding to a report of a break-and-enter at a house in Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, at about 14:30hrs on Monday.

Following a report made at the Providence Police Station of a break-and-enter at a house in Herstelling New Scheme, ranks visited the scene, where they met Bertrand Walks, a 36-year-old gold miner and Oziah Vanrosum, a 20-year-old construction worker.

A statement from the police said that the ranks enquired who was in charge of the house, and Bertrand acknowledged that he was. He then indicated that the property was in dispute and a relative told him to stay there. The ranks requested to search the house, and Bertrand agreed. The search was conducted in their presence, during which .38 revolver was found in a bathroom on the upper floor.

The firearm was checked and found to be loaded with ammunition. When questioned, Vanrossum admitted ownership of the gun. Police took possession of the weapon, and both men were arrested and placed into custody.
