Trinidad Health Minister robbed after gun placed to head

(Trinidad Express) The Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for St Joseph was robbed of a gold bracelet on Tuesday afternoon as he sat outside the Nyabinghi Bar at the corner of Abercromby and King Streets, St Joseph.

A video of him telling someone what happened was posted to social media yesterday evening.

“I am in St Joseph in my constituency. Five of clock, hot sun, bright sun sitting outside Nyabinghi Bar opposite the church (St Joseph RC) with a constituent. Two fellas walk up to me, put a gun to my head and robbed me of my bracelet,” he said.

He then tells the person on the other end, “just letting you know where crime has reached. Don’t knock the police…I’m just letting you know,” he said following which the video stops.

At the time of the conversation there is a marked police SUV near to him with a uniformed officer apparently listening to the conversation.

The Express reached out to the Minister but he declined all calls. He did respond via WhatsApp however confirming that the theft occurred at 5 p.m. yesterday.

He was asked how he felt about this but there was no response.
