At approximately 15:27 hrs., machinery operated by contractors working at Dumpsite Road came into contact with GPL’s network, resulting in a widespread outage, the power company said in a Facebook post today.
As a result, customers in Demerara and Berbice experienced a service interruption.
A team is at the location to rectify the damage and restore power within the shortest time possible, GPL said.
GPL once again reminds Contractors (Building, Drainage, irrigation, and Land Development) who wish to work close to the company’s network to contact GPL at 226 2600 or 0475 at least 72 hours before commencing.
Contractors who damage the company’s network will be held responsible for the cost of repairs, it warned.
