Residents of Georgetown experienced multiple blackouts yesterday with the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) CEO, Kesh Nandlall stating that vibrations from piling activities on the Railway Embankment at Hope on the East Coast Demerara could have been to blame.
“The blackouts occurred twice yesterday, and we suspect the ongoing piling exercise is the reason,” Nandlall stated. “We are monitoring the situation closely to ensure the stability of our infrastructure.”
Line L17 Transmission Line, which supplies electricity from the power ship in Berbice to communities from Good Hope and Columbia, was disrupted during the incidents.
Residents expressed frustration over the outages on Facebook, highlighting the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses alike.
As the piling work continues, GPL has assured the public that they are taking all necessary precautions to maintain service and minimize disruptions. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
