(Trinidad Guardian) The Homicide Bureau of Investigations is set to take over the case of Freeport mother Afiya Adams, who succumbed to her injuries yesterday after being set on fire last Saturday.
Police confirmed that Adams, 41, a mother of two, died at the Mount Hope Hospital at midday. Investigators are now awaiting the results of an autopsy to be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre, St James. They are also expected to retrieve her hospital records.
A suspect remains in police custody.
Police said at 5.30 am Saturday, an argument erupted at Adams’ Mission Road, Freeport house between her and a close male relative. The row escalated when the man allegedly doused Adams with gasoline and set her on fire.
Family members quickly rushed to her aid, extinguishing the flames. Adams was then taken to the hospital, where she spent her last four days in a critical condition.
Adams’ two daughters, aged 15 and 9, were at home at the time of the incident.
