45th Chess Olympiad
Guyana recorded positive results in the 45th edition of the Chess Olympiad continued in Budapest, Hungary, as the men’s team defeated Ivory Coast while the women drew with Equatorial Guinea yesterday.
In the open division, Guyana bested the Ivory Coast 3-1. Guyana’s only defeat occurred in the opening round as Candidate Master Taffin Khan went down to Nicolas Cogan. However, FIDE Master Anthony Drayton defeated Simplice De Gondo in the second stanza to level proceedings.
Loris Nathoo then overcame Yoboue Manan in the third round, before Sachin Pitamber defeated Yoann Phillippe in the fourth stanza to seal the win.
