– GFF also quiet on the departure
Former Guyana Football Federation (GFF) General Secretary Reverend Ian Alves has remained silent on the reasons behind this sudden resignation from the entity.
Probed as to the reasons for his sudden resignation, Alves, before hanging the phone up, stated, “I am not disloyal; given my background, I am not going to operate like that. Good afternoon.”
An official circular dated September 13th, which was sent to the members of the GFF Congress and signed by GFF President Wayne Forde, confirmed the immediate resignation of Alves.
The correspondence stated, “I am writing to inform you that the GFF Council has accepted the resignation of Mr. Ian Alves from his role as General Secretary of the Guyana Football Federation, effective today, September 13, 2024. Until further notice, Ms. Vanetta Sampson will manage the Office of the General Secretary. She can be reached at her official email address, vanetta.sampsongff@gmail.com, and at the official office email address, “general.secretary@guyanafootball.org,” for any inquiries or assistance you may need. On behalf of everyone at the GFF, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Alves for his contributions to the GFF.”
Efforts to contact GFF President Wayne Forde for a comment proved futile. Several calls to his cellular phone went unanswered up to press time.
When Stabroek Sports had reached out to GFF’s Forde for a comment on the reason behind the resignation on September 13th, he answered initially and told this publication to call back, but when Stabroek Sports called again, there was no answer.
