Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh on Thursday met with students who were recently awarded scholarships by the Government of Guyana, with the support of the Government of Cuba, to pursue both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the field of medicine, in Cuba.
A release from the Ministry of Finance said that Singh told the students that by virtue of their selection, they are being afforded the opportunity to study overseas, which is a huge privilege not only academically, but it will also provide them with the opportunity to interact with international counterparts, and to live and experience another country’s culture. Singh highlighted the rich Cuban culture that the students will be able to experience and enjoy, and thanked the Cuban Government on behalf of the Government and People of Guyana, for their contribution to medical education, and more broadly, the health sector, in Guyana.
Singh also congratulated the students on their attainment of the scholarships, wished them well in their studies, and urged them to be good ambassadors of Guyana and gracious guests of Cuba.
The Cuban Ambassador to Guyana, Jorge Francisco Soberon Luis was also present.
