Luke George, a 23-year-old of Aishalton, Region Nine, who allegedly maliciously set fire to his family’s home on Monday evening has been remanded to prison.
This is according to the Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Raphael Rose, who related that George appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s court on Wednesday before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan where he was charged with setting fire to a dwelling house. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison.
Aishalton toshao, Timothy Williams, told Stabroek News that around 6:30pm on Monday it is alleged that George allegedly set the family home on fire whilst imbibing alcohol. No injuries were reported but the family has lost their home and important belongings.
Williams confirmed yesterday that presently, the village council is assisting with rebuilding the house. However, the public is free to assist in any further way.
