The Guyana Open and Women’s teams at the World Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, faltered in their respective round 10 matches yesterday, as they lost to Brunei (Open) and Liberia, respectively.
The men put up a fight but fell short, ceding victory to Brunei 1.5-2.5.
Anthony Drayton went down to Omar Hafizon in the first round. However, Loris Nathoo equalised at 1-1 for Guyana, as he defeated Soon Wei Yee in the second stanza.
Brunei retook the lead as Keron Sandiford was then defeated by Rodney Guan, while Sachin Pitamber and Ahmad Akmal drew in the fourth round.
