Moray House Trust (MHT) is to stage a `bat and ball’ art and photography exhibition from September 25th to October 4th.
A release from MHT said that the exhibition will run from Wednesday 25th September to Friday 4th October at Moray House Trust, 239 Camp & Quamina streets in Georgetown.
It will be open to the public between the hours of 11.00 am and 2.00 pm daily and from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm on Saturday 28th September with an additional informal opening on Friday 27th September from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm.
The release said that the exhibition is the first to be held under the auspices of The Gallery at Moray House, an occasional art gallery and exhibition space intended to complement Moray House Trust’s existing programme of cultural work. It is curated by Dennis de Caires, a Barbados-based artist and gallerist, and Christina Grell, a Trinidadian gallerist who lives in Guyana.
“The curators selected bat and ball as the theme for their first exhibition because it is an intrinsic part of local culture. Nearly everyone who has grown up in Guyana has played bat and ball at some point. Most Guyanese have vivid memories of bottom-house or back-yard games of cricket, or games played in the park, the road, a bit of pasture or on the beach”, the release said.
Artists were invited to decorate simple homemade bats, similar to the ones used in games of bat and ball. These bats will be on display alongside a small selection of photographs of games of bat and ball, as played on a Georgetown street, a local beach and in the hinterland. Both the bats and the photographs are for available for purchase. As is customary, the release said that they will be retained for display until the exhibition closes. MHT said it welcomes anyone with an interest in art or in cricket to visit the exhibition. For further information interested persons can call 2260724 or email thegallerymht@gmail.com.
