Mark Ramdass, a 46-year-old miner from Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara appeared yesterday at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed to answer two charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was placed on $50,000 bail on each charge, the police said in a release. The matter was adjourned to 28 October 2024 for disclosure. At about 2 am on Sunday, a police team from Regional Division #7 proceeded to Ramdass’ camp at Oku Backdam. Upon arrival, they found Ramdass asleep in his bed. The release said that the Police woke him up, and a search was conducted on the camp, during which a black plastic bag containing a bottle was found inside a pillowcase. The bottle contained several rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine, along with a number of ziplock packets containing seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The suspected narcotics (cocaine and marijuana) were weighed, amounting to 5.4 grams of cocaine and 38.7 grams of marijuana.
