Bandits pounce on fuel truck workers at Gaypark

Two bandits yesterday morning pounced on the operators of a fuel truck along the Gaypark, East Bank Berbice, public road leaving one worker injured.

Owner of the company, Leeds Fuel,  David Subnauth, 44, of Number 50 Village, Corentyne, last evening explained that the driver of the truck and porter stopped along the main access road after there was an issue with the truck.

He said they relayed that they were walking to a nearby snackette when the two men on bicycles, one armed with a firearm, approached them. One of them hit the porter in his head with the gun.

Eventually the workers handed over $200,000 which they had in their possession at the time after which the bandits escaped.

Stabroek News was told that the matter was reported at the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam.

The company has been operating in the region supplying fuel since 1993.
