A 23-year-old man, Joshua Austin, was denied bail yesterday by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after being charged with the unlawful assault of a minor.
Austin appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. It was alleged that on September 12, 2024, he assaulted the nine-year-old by stabbing him in the neck nine times. Austin pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution strongly objected to bail, highlighting the severity of the attack. Magistrate Azore questioned the prosecution about the victim’s medical status and learnt that the boy had been released from hospital care.
When asked about his relationship with the child, Austin could not provide a clear explanation, only stating that he was acquainted with the victim’s family.
Given the unclear nature of the relationship and the seriousness of the allegations, Magistrate Azore denied bail. The case has been adjourned for statements.
