Guyana recorded a tournament-leading 15 gold medals and an overall count of 23 accolades to finish second overall when the 6th Caribbean Development Archery Championships concluded in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

This was disclosed by an official release from Archery Guyana. According to the correspondence, Guyana, who finished second to the host nation, ended with a total of 23 medals, of which 15 gold accolades were the most awarded to any of the competing nations. It was also eight more than second-place Jamaica.

The Guyanese also won five silver and three bronze accolades to out their overall total, in the process falling two short of the host nation.

“Last year’s Recurve Mixed Team power couple Jeewanram Persaud and Roshini Boodhoo took the gold again in this year’s Mixed Team matches, as did last year’s Barebow Mixed Team of Teemahall Lall and Nataliya Pollard”, the release stated.

Trinidad and Tobago rounded out the top three with 13 medals. The other competing nations were the Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands (BVI), and USA. The BVI unit secured the fourth position with seven medals, while the Bahamas, Barbados, and the USA ended on six, five, and two medals, respectively.

President of Archery Guyana Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon expressed immense pride in the success of the team, noting, “They brought their very best to the field, and it is their talent, dedication, and perseverance that truly made this tournament special. Without their commitment, countless hours of training, and perseverance through all obstacles, none of this would have been possible. I am reminded of how far we’ve come from 2018, when Archery Guyana hosted the inaugural Level 1 coaching seminar.

The global pandemic may have slowed us down for a couple of years, but within five years, despite the downtime, here we are, on the international stage, coming home with a very shiny collection of medals.”
