NEW YORK, CMC – The Dominica Republic’s Olympic gold medalist Marileidy Paulino and Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn both walked away with US$60, 000 after winning their respective events at the inaugural, prestigious, all-female Athlos NYC track meet here Thursday.
The meet featured six events and offered US$60, 000 to the winners, $25,000 for second place, third place snagged $10,000, with $8,000 for fourth, $5,000 for fifth, and $2,500 for sixth place. Paulino, the World and Olympic champion, continued her dominance in the 400 metres by crossing the finish line in a time of 49.49 seconds, to relegate the USA’s Alexis Holmes to second in 49.99, while Salwa Eid Naser clocked 50.44 to finish third.
Meanwhile, Camacho-Quinn, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, captured the 100-metre hurdles in 12.36 seconds, comfortably ahead of second-placed Alaysha Johnson of the USA (12.43), with Olympic champion Masai Russell placing third in 12.44.
Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, a two-time world champion, finished fifth in a time of 12.56 seconds.
