A 61-year-old pedal cyclist died yesterday following an accident on the Number 28 Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

Dead is Standford Benjamin, of Number 28 Village, West Coast Berbice.

The accident involved motor car, PZZ 7256, driven by Malcolm Nurse, a 65-year-old resident of New Amsterdam, Berbice; and the pedal cyclist.

Enquiries revealed that at about 14.00 hours, Benjamin was proceeding west along the public road, while Nurse’s car was behind.

Nurse alleged that as he was in the process of passing Benjamin, the cyclist suddenly swerved into the path of his vehicle, causing the front of his car to hit the bicycle.

The impact threw the cyclist onto the roadway where he was picked up in an unconscious condition and conveyed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment for his injuries.
