Following a protest in the Free and Easy community at 7 am on Saturday, Minister in the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar met with residents to address their concerns regarding speeding along the roadway and dust pollution from contractors involved in the gas-to-energy project.
A statement from the Ministry of Public Works yesterday said that the Minister implemented immediate interventions such as the periodic wetting of the road to reduce dust pollution and ordering the repair of damaged sections of the road under a maintenance contract. Guyana Police Force Commander Khalid Mandall and Patentia/Toevlugt Neighbourhood Democratic Council Chairman, Mark Khan attended that engagement.
To follow-up on Saturday’s meeting, Indar yesterday morning led discussions with the contractors to ensure their subcontractors work in a manner that does not negatively affect the Wales and Vriesland communities. The statement from the ministry said that CH4/Lindsayca and GYSBI have committed to addressing the matters raised with their subcontractors, and the GPF will have a greater presence in the communities to curb speeding along the carriageway.
