Industrial Technology at Patentia Secondary

Dear Editor,

Yesterday on social media the Ministry of Education proudly announced the opening of a new block at Patentia Secondary that “will cater to learners who want to do TD and Industrial Technology”. Congratulations to the Ministry of Education, the teachers, the staff, the parents and the students of Patentia Secondary on the addition of these capabilities at their school.

According to Fiveable Inc. “Industrial technology refers to the advanced techniques and processes developed during the Industrial Revolution that transformed industries through mechanization and automation”. “Types of industrial technology include chemical, mechanical, and electrical processes that aid in production” (Reference: UTPB.edu).

The reason I mention what Industrial Technology entails is to point out to those undertaking this pursuit that the theoretical understanding of this topic is quite involved, and schools that pursue teaching this topic usually have labs with equipment to offer the students a hands-on understanding of the topic. For example, a high school in Germany has a robotic arm that students are able to study. Today, most schools have the capabilities to do 3D printing, computer drafting and robotics. You may also find soldering, drills, power saws and other commonly used equipment, but equipment is always necessary.

CRG is looking forward to seeing the installation of the equipment needed for the studying of today’s Industrial Technology at Patentia Secondary. The current photos showed by the Ministry of Education are void of any such equipment, but they do have what is needed for Technical Drawing. Please do not hesitate to contact CRG if additional information is needed.

Best regards,
