One person was held following the break-in at Samtronix, a smartphone and electronic gadgets store located at 136 Regent Street, Bourda, Georgetown.
This is according to the Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean.
Meanwhile, the owner of Samtronix, Shah Rukh Halai, related that he still has not recovered the stolen items worth over $65 million that were carted away on September 16 when the discovery was made.
The incident occurred between September 15 and 16 (Sunday and Monday), and investigations revealed that the owner had secured his building and when he returned on Monday (September 16), he discovered that items were missing from his store.
Halai recounted that on September 16 around 10 am, he received a call from his brother who works in the building next to his, alerting him that someone had entered his store and that he should come quickly to check to see if everything was okay.
Halai noted that on September 15, he secured his shop and on Monday, the following day, no one came to work since it was Youman Nabi. “When we came, we saw that the shop was robbed.” He stated that there were no CCTV cameras to show who had burgled his business and items in the store were scattered all over the floor. He disclosed that some $65 million worth of items were taken, including laptops, cellphones, Sony X-Box gaming systems, speakers, and digital video recorders.
The owner emphasised that he just wants his items back since they are worth millions of dollars.
Sam-tronix has several other branches in Georgetown.
