Mahaica thrashes Victoria in East Coast football

Mahaica Determinators swamped the Victoria Kings by a 7-0 score-line when the East Coast Demerara Senior Men’s League continued at the Buxton Community Centre ground.

The contest was effectively over at the conclusion of the first half, as the Mahaica unit stormed to an imposing 5-0 advantage. Julius Hamilton, the scorer of an eventual hat-trick, commenced the rout with a 10th minute conversion.

Samuel Van Dijk then got into the scoring act as he blasted past the goalkeeper in the 14th minute to double their advantage. Nigel Mansfield then opened his account following a 26th-minute strike to further extend their lead.

Van Dijk then completed his brace to make the score 4-0, as he found the back of the net four minutes later. The perfect half was then completed in the form of Mansfield, who sealed his brace in the 40th minute.

Hamilton then took over the scoring burden following the resumption of play, as he etched his name on the scorer-sheet in the 46th minute. The lopsided result was sealed in the 70th minute, as Hamilton completed his haul.

With the result, the Mahaica unit climbed onto 14 points and jumped into second place, while the Victoria Kings remain rooted on three points in sixth position.

Meanwhile, Melanie and Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph played to a 1-1 stalemate in the earlier contest of the doubleheader.

The event continues at the same venue with another round of matches tomorrow. At 19:00hrs, Airy Hall will lock horns with the Mahaicony Lions in a battle of the newcomers, while the second encounter will pit hosts Buxton Stars against the Victoria Kings at 21:00hrs.
