Naresh Ally, also known as `Little Robbery’, yesterday pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in connection with the 2018 killing of Romeza Sukdeo. The plea was entered before Justice Peter Hugh at the High Court in Demerara yesterday. Ally had originally been charged with murder, but the charge was reduced to manslaughter.
Following the plea, Justice Hugh ordered the preparation of a probation report, along with an outline of the agreed facts and a presentation of both mitigating and aggravating factors. These documents will be presented during the sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for October 17, 2024.
In 2018 Sukdeo’s body was discovered under a tree near Hydronie Market Road in Parika by a security guard, who immediately alerted the authorities. A subsequent autopsy, conducted by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, revealed that Sukdeo had died from strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head.
