The police have assured the family of Salima Heeralal, who died following a traffic accident, that an impartial probe will be done.
Senior members of the police force visited the family yesterday.
Heeralal was involved in a serious accident on September 29, 2024, and succumbed to her injuries.
Reports are that the accident involved a car, PAE 672, driven by Marshall Allicock, a 21-year-old from Earl’s Court, LBI; and another car, PAH 5148, owned by Trans Guyana Airways and driven by Prakash Heeralal, a 58-year-old from East Coast Demerara (ECD), with Salima as a passenger.
Inquiries revealed that PAH 5148 was proceeding west along the La Bonne Intention Railway Embankment, whilst PAE 672 was proceeding south out of the LBI access road. Allicock allegedly failed to stop his vehicle when approaching the intersection and collided with PAH 5148, causing it to crash into a bridge.
The driver and passenger of PAH 5148 were taken out of the vehicle by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were admitted.
Allicock was taken to a private city hospital by a family member, where he was admitted for observation. Prakash Heeralal has since been discharged from the hospital.
Yesterday, Inspector S. Gobin, Sergeant Charles and other police ranks were accompanied by Pastor M. Sharma from the Cops and Faith network, as well as a representative from the Road Safety Council in Regional Division 4C, in their visit to Heeralal at Better Hope, ECD, to offer their support and condolences to family members and other relatives and friends.
A release from the police said that the visit served as a gesture of condolence and support to the grieving family, acknowledging the profound loss they experienced.
The family members were given an update on the present status of the investigation and were assured that an impartial investigation would be done into the matter in an expeditious manner.
