The Golden Arrowhead was not flying in its correct position at the Providence stadium

Dear Editor,

When will senior government officials and others stop disrespecting one of our Symbols of Nationhood – The Golden Arrowhead, our National Flag? I watched the CPL cricket match between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St. Lucia Kings which was played at the Providence National Stadium and televised globally. I was perturbed when the cameras zoomed in and highlighted the Golden Arrowhead flying at the Providence Stadium. Guess what? On yet another major event in Guyana it was wrongly positioned. Yes. It was flying on the right side of three other flags. This is another serious breach of the established protocol in relation to the display of our Golden Arrowhead.

The protocol is that whenever the Golden Arrowhead is flying next to an individual flag it must be on the right side of that flag and when it is mounted among other flags it must be in the centre and slightly above those flags. Here is what Article 7 of the Constitution of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana says about paying respect of our Symbols of Nationhood. “It is the duty of every citizen in Guyana wherever he or she may be and every person in Guyana to respect the national flag, the coat of arms, the national anthem, the national pledge and the Constitution of Guyana, and to treat them with due and proper solemnity on all occasions.” I pray to God that the authorities correct the sad state of affairs that existed that I alluded to above and let the Golden Arrowhead fly proudly in its rightful position. May God help Guyana.

Sincerely.
