In the wake of recent activities that suggest a potential alignment of views with the government, Member of Parliament Jermaine Figueira has firmly denied that he might be shifting allegiances. “I don’t give credence to speculations. I am a servant of the people, and my consistent actions speak for themselves, I’m beyond the rhetoric,” Figueira said.
During the recent crisis following severe flooding in Linden, Figueira was asked by Stabroek News about his participation in the government’s relief efforts. He clarified that what some referred to as a “government walkabout” was in fact a collaborative effort among local stakeholders. “All elected officials in Linden and Region Ten were invited to help identify affected residents in need of assistance,” he explained. He commended local leaders for uniting to advocate for governmental support, emphasising that effective help is being mobilised for those impacted by the flooding.
