The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) commenced its 50th Fire Prevention anniversary yesterday, embracing the theme, “Fire Safety and Green, One Guyana Dream.” The event began with uplifting music performed by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) band, setting a celebratory tone for the occasion.
According to a press release from the GFS, this year’s fire prevention month will encompass a variety of activities across all ten administrative regions of Guyana. These will include community outreach initiatives, fire safety exhibitions, visits to children’s and senior citizens’ homes, school visits, fire safety talks, a school fair and exhibition, a curry-que, as well as futsal and cricket competitions. Many activities will be hosted at fire stations and within local communities. The release said the GFS is urging all citizens to prioritize fire safety and prevention to mitigate the risks associated with fire incidents. It emphasized the importance of equipping homes and businesses with fire suppression tools or systems, remaining vigilant during dry seasons, and promptly reporting any fires to the service.
