– Rivers View win in women’s section
Rising Stars and Agatash advanced to the quarterfinal round in the men’s division, while Rivers View opened their campaign in the women’s segment with a win when the ‘Rats’ Memorial Football Championship commenced on Saturday evening at the Bartica Community Centre ground.
Rising Stars defeated Rivers View 3-1. Surrendering the initial lead to an Andrew Simmons conversion in the 14th minute, Rising Stars equalised in the form of Joshua James, who etched his name on the score-sheet in the 35th minute. The score would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval.
Upon the resumption, Rising Stars seized the lead in the 65th minute, as Ashton Dutchin made his presence felt. The win was then sealed in the 90th minute as Ian Gomes found the back of the net.
Also, Agatash defeated Mil Ballers 5-1. Josh Allen bagged a double in the sixth and 64th minutes, while Denzil McIntyre, Jemol Pollard, and Jevon George scored in the eighth, 50th, and 54th minutes, respectively. On target in the loss was Kishon Tobin in the 52nd minute.
Meanwhile, Rivers View bested Potaro 2-1 in the women’s section. Anna Charles handed Rivers View the early lead in the 15th minute, only for Potaro to equalise via a Renea Fordyce conversion 10 minutes onward. Rivers View restored their lead, scoring what proved to be the go-ahead winner in the 30th minute through Duan Williams.
