Police are currently investigating the shooting of Jianqing Chen, a 50-year-old Chinese businessman.
The shooting occurred at approximately 12:07 pm yesterday, outside the First Choice Chinese Super-market located on D’Urban Street in Georgetown.
According to reports, the suspect was riding a black motorcycle and approached Chen while he was seated in his grey Nissan motorcar
A 26-year-old security guard attached to the supermarket told investigators he was on duty at the time in the guard hut when he observed Chen in his motorcar, which was parked in front of the supermarket. He overheard Chen arguing with someone on his phone and shortly after he heard several loud explosions suspected to be gunshots. He then observed the aforementioned motorcyclist ride away at a fast rate, heading west on D’Urban Street.
Upon approaching Chen’s vehicle, the security guard told police that he discovered him slumped in the driver’s seat, covered in blood, with his hand hanging out of the car window. The guard promptly contacted Marvin Crawford, a 49-year-old businessman and owner of the security service, who arrived at the scene and transported Chen to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for emergency treatment. Chen was admitted with several gunshot wounds and is reported to be in serious condition, requiring surgery.
Investigators recovered three 9mm spent shells from the scene and found an iPhone inside Chen’s vehicle. Inquiries are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect.
