-cites old grievances
Jamaul Cornwell appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the George-town Magistrate’s Court last month where he was charged with simple larceny.
The charge alleges that on September 9 2024, at Longden and America streets, Cornwell was entrusted by Carl Vandross with $2 million, which he allegedly converted to his personal use.
Cornwell pleaded not guilty to the charge, denying any wrongdoing. He told the court that he and Vandross had a history of business dealings and claimed that the current charge was the result of old grievances between them. Cornwell further said that he had pawned a motorcycle and was in the process of repaying for it when Vandross accused him of stealing the motorcycle. According to Vandross, at the time of the incident, he had $3 million in his possession while conducting business.
Cornwell disputed the claim, asserting that there was no $2 million in the motorcycle and that Vandross had the money on his person instead.
After hearing arguments from both parties, Magistrate McGusty granted Cornwell bail in the sum of $200,000.
