Men jailed for break-ins at G-Invest

Andrew Austin and Vickram Lakeram were each sentenced to 18 months imprisonment last month after pleading guilty to two charges of break and enter and larceny.

The incidents occurred between September 21 and 22, 2024, at the Guyana Office for Investment (G-Invest) located at Church and Camp streets, Georgetown.

The men appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the George-town Magistrate’s Court, where they faced three separate charges. The court heard that during the break-ins, Austin and Lakeram stole items including six bottles of perfume valued at $14,000 and a quantity of medication worth $7,500.

In addition, they were charged with stealing three laptops valued at $600,000, which were the property of the Govern-ment of Guyana. The duo also took one bottle of perfume valued at $3,000 and one cream worth $1,500. All the stolen items were subsequently recovered and returned.

After pleading guilty to all the charges, the magistrate recognized that they did not waste the court’s time and sentenced them to 18 months imprisonment for each charge. However, the sentences will run concurrently.
