NA biker dies after slamming into utility pole

A New Amsterdam man died after he lost control of his motorcycle and slammed into a utility pole along the Vryheid, West Canje Berbice Public Road yesterday afternoon.

Dead is Dennson Edwards, 46, of High Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

Edwards was proceeding along the Vryheid Public Road, West Canje Berbice around 5. 10 pm on motorcycle CK 995 at the time of the crash.

Based on information gathered, Edwards was proceeding east along the Vryheid Public Road at a fast rate when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a utility pole on the southern side of the said road.

According to the police, Edwards who was not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the accident fell off his motorcycle and ended up on the grass parapet while the motorcycle came to a stop and was submerged in a trench on the southern side of the said road.

As a result, he suffered injuries about his head and other parts of his body. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and was taken to the New Amster-dam Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced him dead on arrival.

His body is presently lying at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
