Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Floyd Green stated, “I’m thrilled to see Caribbean Broilers Jamaica being recognised as CARICOM Farmer of the Year! This is a huge win for Jamaica and reflects their continuous hard work and commitment to the sector. It’s a win for their 1,300 employees and for Jamaica as a whole. It truly demonstrates how we can lead the way in overcoming the challenges in agriculture through modern and consistent farming practices. Together, we’re building a brighter, stronger future for agriculture in the Caribbean.”

The CWA 2024, hosted in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), opened on Monday, October 7, under the theme ‘Climate-smart Agriculture for a Sustainable Future’. The event brings together agricultural leaders and stakeholders from across the Caribbean to tackle the critical issues of food security.

During the opening ceremony, Saboto S. Caesar, SVG’s minister of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, rural transformation, industry and labour, highlighted the importance of climate resilience in safeguarding the region’s agricultural future. In his keynote address, SVG’s Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves urged the Caribbean to take bold, united action to address the growing threat of climate change to agriculture.

With a full week of discussions, panels, and exhibitions ahead, the Caribbean Week of Agriculture 2024 aims to set the course for a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future for the Caribbean.
