Venezuelan motorcyclist dies after collision at Camp and Lamaha Sts

An accident that occurred at about 20.53 hours on Thursday at the intersection of Camp and Lamaha streets, Georgetown, has resulted in the death of a Venezuelan national, 21-year-old Luis Natera.

The accident involved a Honda Vezel – PAG 2470 – driven by 19-year-old Cleveland Peters, and a motorcycle -CM 8134 – ridden by Natera of Lot 92 Second Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, with pillion rider Yohennis Moya, a 25-year-old female Venezue-lan national.

Enquiries revealed that the Vezel was proceeding east on Lamaha Street at a fast rate, while the motorcycle was heading south along Camp Street.

According to the police, the traffic lights at the intersection of Camp and Lamaha streets, were in ‘flashing mode’. The Vezel, PAG 2470, had flashing red, while motorcycle, CM 8134, had flashing amber. The driver of the Vezel failed to stop and drove through the intersection, colliding with the motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist and pillion rider were flung into the air and landed in an empty lot on the southeastern side of the intersection.

An ambulance was summoned and the pillion rider was picked up in a conscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the Vezel, PAG 2470, was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution and subjected to a Breathalyzer test. No trace of alcohol was found.

The driver is in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
