Chinese national, Jin Ming Wu, owner of Prosperous Hardware Incorporated, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face four charges related to alleged tax evasion.
Wu, who resides at Lot 110 Regent Street, Georgetown, was charged by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) with failing to file individual income tax returns for the years 2022 to 2024. He faced one charge related to his company and three personal charges.
The GRA alleges that Prosperous Hardware Inc failed to submit its tax returns by the April 30, 2022, deadline.
Wu pleaded guilty with an explanation to this charge, as well as to the three individual charges for failing to file tax returns for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024.
The prosecutor informed the court that the penalty for the offences is a 10% surcharge on the assessed taxes. A two-week adjournment was requested to allow the GRA to calculate the total amount owed for each year.
Magistrate McGusty granted Wu self-bail, acknowledging his voluntary court appearance.
