A 22-year-old fisherman was fatally stabbed by his ex-brother-in-law following a dispute stemming from an ongoing family conflict.

The victim, identified as Michael Jackson, also known as ‘Junior,’ was stabbed on Thursday night by a 27-year-old, also a fisherman. The incident occurred sometime around 9:00 pm at Lot 219, Fourth Street, No. 76 Housing Scheme, Upper Corentyne, Berbice.

The stabbing is believed to be the result of a longstanding grievance between the two men according to the victim’s sister, Maria Jackson, who spoke with the Sunday Stabroek. She related that tensions had escalated in the days leading up to the stabbing, following an argument over Adams’ children.

Adams had been married to the sister of the now-deceased Jackson and had maintained a cordial relationship with them until recently.

The fatal stabbing occurred during a confrontation between Jackson and Adams. Maria recalled that her brother ran to his other sister Selina Gobin, for help after being stabbed. “Terrence bore meh,” he told her. Gobin said she lifted her brother’s shirt and saw the stab wound on his side. She wrapped the wound with a shirt and neighbours helped rush him to the hospital, but Jackson succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

As of now, the stabber remains at large, with police actively searching for him. The investigation is ongoing.
