National reserve Lt Col headed Barbados court martial

Commandant of the Guyana National Reserve (GNR)Lieutenant Colonel Lloyd Souvenir of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) recently served as President of an Ordinary Court Martial, convened to try Sub Lieutenant Nakeida Gibson of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), according to a release from the GDF.

The case, which proceeded under the auspices of the BDF, marked a critical examination of military conduct, the release said. Sub Lieutenant Gibson faced charges of, Conduct to the Prejudice of Good Order and Military Discipline, Neglect to the Prejudice of Good Order and Military Discipline, Civil Offence contrary to Section 76(1) of the Defence Act.

The board, comprising senior officers from the military forces of Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados, underscored the regional collaboration in upholding military justice.

The trial started on Tuesday, 23rd September, 2024, and concluded on Friday, October 4th, 2024.

“This case is a significant reminder of the importance of adhering to the chain of command and maintaining professionalism in the armed forces, with potential ramifications not only for the accused but for broader military conduct within CARICOM nations”, the release said.

The court martial sentenced the Officer to dismissal from the Force.
