Vergenoegen teen charged with attempted murder

A 17-year-old from Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alisha George to answer to the charge of attempting to murder another 17-year-old on October 03 at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

The juvenile was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre.

Enquiries revealed that the complainant and the two suspects are known to each other. On October 3, at about 22.00 hours, the complainant and the suspects were in a minibus.

The complainant then exited the bus at Tuschen New Scheme, and the suspects exited as well and pursued the complainant who attempted to escape by running and jumping into a yard in Second Street Tuschen New Scheme. However, the suspects caught up with him and stabbed him several times about his body, before fleeing the scene. The complainant was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where his condition was deemed as critical and he was transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he remains a patient.

Meanwhile, the second suspect was arrested and released on $200,000  bail, and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further legal advice.

The second suspect has denied the allegations, and his report was corroborated by the juvenile who was charged and claimed he acted alone. However, the complainant alleges that they both stabbed him.

The matter was adjourned to November 28 for continuation.
