It is definitely not an easy feat to fulfill some dreams or any dream for that matter but Antonio Prittipal, a young pilot, embarked on what would become a significant journey back to his homeland last week, shaping not just his future but hopes to inspire others by doing so.
The young JetBlue pilot’s journey to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport began with steadfast dedication, training rigorously at aviation institutions and flight centres in the US amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Building his hours and expertise on various aircraft types, he honed his skills to eventually pilot the Airbus A320/A321, accruing significant flight time and experience crucial for his momentous voyage he told the Sunday Stabroek in an email interview.
This young pilot’s journey from his humble beginnings in New Amster-dam, Berbice all started while at primary school. Having his mother, Soma Prittipal and dad, Buddy Prittipal supporting his journey to this milestone, Antonio shared that he is truly grateful and honoured acknowledging that he knows that not many persons as children get the support they need from their parents especially when it’s not a dream of their parents. “I’m even eager to let you know that my sister is a licensed pilot as well. Successfully gaining her private pilot licence”, he told the Sunday Stabroek.
Flying home to Guyana…
With unexplainable pride and joy, Antonio described his inaugural flight to Guyana as a dream realized, citing it as the pinnacle moment in his career. The anticipation and significance of this journey sparked a myriad of emotions as he prepared meticulously for this special flight, all the while eager to share this milestone with his loved ones back home in New Amsterdam.
His groundwork involv-ed reviewing flight plans, collaborating closely with the designated captain, and ensuring all essential procedures were in place for his exceptional trip. Leveraging resources provided by JetBlue and guidance from experienced colleagues, Antonio navigated the airport intricacies adeptly, instilling a sense of confidence crucial for a successful flight.
As Antonio reflects on flying back to Guyana, his sentiments of happiness, pride, and excitement were amplified by the prospect of reuniting with family and friends.
“It was great being able to share this moment with my family and friends because a lot of hard work went into getting me to this stage of my career with the help of many family members and friends. Most importantly my mom was very proud to see me fly back to Guyana our homeland, she made many sacrifices to help make this happen.” Antonio recalled.
With a passion for aviation and a desire to inspire others, Antonio envisions this journey as a catalyst for promoting aviation awareness among fellow Guyanese and aspiring young pilots. His advice to budding aviators echoes a testament to resilience, curiosity, and self-belief, encouraging them to pursue their dreams relentlessly. Encouraging others to stay the course regardless of what they’re pursuing. Antonio noted “Follow your dreams no matter how impossible it may seem, ask many questions, embrace the journey and believe in yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to.”
At 24-years-old, his journey showcased not just a personal triumph but a narrative of hope, determination, and the transformative power of following one’s aspirations. As he steers towards a future illuminated by possibilities, his flight back to Guyana leaves a lasting impact, inspiring others to take flight and soar to greater heights.
This accomplishment is already a big victory and will be one of Antonio’s most cherished moments. It’s a goal he had long identified and had laboured over the years to achieve it.
