Rider of electric bike dies after struck by lorry

An unidentified electric cycle rider was killed yesterday after he was hit by a motor lorry on the Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara, a police release said.

According to the release the incident occurred at around 14:03 hrs and involved the cyclist and a motor lorry #GAH 5916 owned and driven by 33-year-old Carl Liverpool.

Investigations revealed that the lorry was proceeding south along Bagots-town Public Road behind the electric cycle when it collided with the electric cycle, the release said. As a result of the collision, the cyclist fell onto the road surface, sustaining head injuries.

The release further said that the ambulance service arrived with a team of Emergency Medical Tech-nicians headed by Dr Nankisshun, who pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene.

The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the lorry was arrested and is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
