Georgetown Football League
A power failure at the Guyana Football Federationโs (GFF) National Training Centre (NTC) in Providence forced the abandonment of the Riddim Squad and Eastveldt encounter in the Georgetown Football Association Senior Menโs League on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred prior to the start of the second half, as the entire venue was blanketed in darkness after all the towers lost power. Attempts were made to remedy the situation, but unfortunately the issue was not resolved, which forced the officials to abandon the match. It was further disclosed that the match will be replayed at a later date. Riddim Squad was leading 1-0 at the time of the stoppage via a Timothy Thomas striker in the 37th minute.
Meanwhile, the Northern Rangers and Black Pearl recorded victories prior to the aforesaid incident. The Northern Rangers defeated Camptown 5-1. Donald McKenzie commenced the rout in the ninth minute, while Peter Perez doubled their lead in the 26th minute.
Wesley Greenidge then got into the scoring act as he found the back of the net in the 34th minute. The score then ballooned to 4-0 in the 45th minute as Greenidge completed his brace.
Camptown would eventually record a conversion in the 64th minute via an own goal. However, the result was sealed in the 75th minute as McKenzie completed his double.
Due to the outcome, the Northern Rangers move onto 13 points and climb into second place, while the loser remains in eighth place on seven points.
Similarly, Black Pearl blanked cellar occupant and winless outfit, the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), 3-0. J. Cumberbatch broke the deadlock as he etched his name on the score-sheet in the third minute. The aforesaid conversion proved to be the only goal of the period, as the score remained unchanged entering the halftime interval.
Upon the resumption, S. Atkinson doubled their advantage as he made his presence felt in the 56th minute. The score was then sealed in the form of P. Smith, who slotted past the opposing goalkeeper in the 75th minute.
