Cops net 187 grammes ganja during West Dem cordon and search, arrest two

The 187.9 grams of marijuana that were found.

A police cordon and search operation early yesterday at two houses in Regional Division #3 between 04:35 hrs and 05:30 hrs, netted 187.9 grammes of marijuana and resulted in two arrests.

According to a police press release, the police first went to the home of Michael Charles, 41, known as ‘Mikey,’ a vendor of Den Amstel squatting area. During the search of his residence, officers discovered 187.9 grammes of marijuana hidden in his kitchen cupboard. The release said Charles admitted ownership of the substance and was arrested and taken into custody.

The police then proceeded to Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, where they made contact with Deon Carew, 38, a regional sports officer, the release said. A search was conducted of Carew’s person and premises, however, no illegal items were found.

The release said police then informed Carew of an allegation made regarding an incident on September 4, 2024, where he allegedly obtained credit by false pretence from an individual named Sheldon Abrams. Carew was cautioned about the allegation and responded, “I gon deal with that man.” He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Leonora Police Station for further questioning.
