La Grange cyclist dies after collision with car

Police are investigating the fatal collision, which resulted in the death of 56-year-old pedal cyclist Shaman Ally of Lot 39 Independence Street, La Grange, that occurred on Sunday, October 13.

According to a police press release, preliminary investigations reveal that Ally was riding along the road around 14:45 hrs when he lost control of his bicycle, swerved, and collided with the left-side front fender of motorcar #PMM 9424, driven by 34-year-old Kelvin Hodge, who was travelling in the same direction.

The release said that Ally fell and sustained injuries to his head and body. He was picked up in a semi-conscious state by Emergency Medical Technicians, placed into an ambulance and conveyed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined and later succumbed to his injuries at about 17:30 hrs.

His body was then taken to the Ezekiel Mortuary, to await a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car was placed in custody, assisting with the investigation.
