‘Champion of Champions’ Futsal
The inaugural edition of the Bent Street ‘Champion of Champions’ Futsal Championship will commence this evening, with Stabroek Ballers, Back Circle, Bent Street, and Gold is Money among the household names slated for action at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Tournament Coordinator Troy Lambert stated that all systems are in place for the event, which he envisions to be very competitive given the quality of the participants, adding that the staging of the event would not have been possible without the assistance of all the relevant stakeholders, inclusive of his sponsors.
Stabroek Ballers will oppose Mocha in the opening match at 19:00hrs, while North Ruimveldt will match skills with Team at 19:30hrs, and Linden All-Stars engage California Square at 20:00hrs.
The fourth fixture will pit North East La Penitence against Street Vybz at 20:30hrs, with Gold is Money locking horns with Laing Avenue at 21:00hrs, and Sparta Boss will face off against Back Circle B at 21:30hrs.
In the final two matches, Back Circle A will take aim at Bent Street B at 22:00hrs, and Bent Street A will match skills with Z-Tekk Family at 22:30hrs.
The event, which will last for the duration of six dates, will feature 16 teams competing in an initial group stage format.
Group A comprises Bent Street A, Stabroek Ballers, Z-Tekk Family, and Mocha, while group B contains Back Circle A, North East La Penitence, Street Vybz, and Bent Street B.
On the other hand, group C is made up of Gold is Money, Linden All-Stars, Laing Avenue, and California Square, while group D consists of Sparta Boss, North Ruimveldt, Team Cruel, and Back Circle B.
After the conclusion of the group stage segment, the top two teams in each pool will progress to the quarterfinal round. The playing dates are: October 19th, 25th, November 2nd, 9th, and 16th.
The winner of the event will pocket $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $500,000, $300,000, and $200,000 and the corresponding accolade, respectively. On the individual side, prizes will also be given to the highest goal scorer, most valuable player, best defender, and goalkeeper, respectively.
