Randy Wiggins has been found guilty of manslaughter in the 2021 killing of Kevin Smith. The verdict was delivered in the Georgetown High Court before Justice Jo’ann Barlow.

Wiggins, who was initially charged with murder, saw the charge reduced to manslaughter after a jury returned a not guilty verdict on the murder charge, but found him guilty on the lesser offence in a 10-2 decision.

The incident occurred on May 8, 2021, at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, when an altercation between Wiggins and Smith escalated, resulting in Wiggins stabbing Smith three times — in the chest, lower abdomen, and above his left knee. Smith later died from his injuries.

Testimonies during the trial included statements from Wiggins’ former girlfriend, a cousin of Smith, and pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh, who performed the post-mortem examination. Dr Singh testified that two of the stab wounds were fatal, one causing the collapse of Smith’s right lung, while another led to the protrusion of eight inches of his intestines.

Wiggins is scheduled to be sentenced on November 6.
