Mark D’Oliveira was acquitted of murder yesterday by Justice Peter Hugh at the Demerara High Court due to insufficient evidence. D’Oliveira had been charged in June 2021 with the murder of Kwal Dindon, following an altercation at a birthday party on Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
The incident occurred between June 19 and June 20, 2021, when a dispute between Dindon and D’Oliveira, also known as ‘Buck Boy,’ escalated. According to police reports, Dindon, 23, pushed D’Oliveira to the ground during an argument. D’Oliveira fled, but Dindon and two of his friends pursued him with a piece of wood and reportedly attacked him. In retaliation, D’Oliveira allegedly pulled a knife from his waist and stabbed Dindon in the upper back.
Dindon collapsed in a nearby yard and was rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He later succumbed to his injuries.
D’Oliveira, who had initially been remanded to prison, was acquitted after the court found there was not enough evidence to support a conviction.
