Police early yesterday morning found a pistol with matching ammunition in a grey wagon parked on Norton Street and efforts are not being made to contact the owner of the vehicle based on the documentation found inside.
According to a release from the police at around 2:30 am yesterday ranks on patrol duty were in the vicinity of Norton Street and Mandela Avenue at a known “drugs block”, when they saw a group of men acting in a suspicious manner.
The release said that the ranks stopped the patrol vehicle, and the men started to walk off in different directions. It was then the grey wagon car bearing registration PAG 3160 was observed. The vehicle was locked and individuals were questioned as to the ownership of the car but no one claimed it, the release said.
A car key was found next to the car and it unlocked the vehicle.
“Several persons were again asked who the owner of the motorcar was, but no one admitted ownership. A search was then conducted on the motorcar to ascertain the owner by means of documentation, and a .40 pistol containing one magazine and eleven .40 rounds of ammunition were found in the glove compartment of the vehicle,” the release said.
Further, ranks found registration for the vehicle in the name of Melissa Cox of Norton Street, Lodge, and a driver’s licence in the name of Patrick Kireem Sanmoogan. Checks were made for both of them, but without success.
Investigations continue.
