As part of the Ministry of Labour’s (MoL) ongoing efforts to uphold and enhance occupational safety and health practices in the growing oil and gas industry in Guyana, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer, Karen Singh, and Labour Officer, Ravi Persaud, both of the MoL, visited the offshore Stena Drillmax drillship to ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, under the Laws of Guyana, a MoL release stated.
According to MoL, the inspection involved a thorough evaluation of various safety and health protocols, including the vessel’s health, safety, and environment (HSE) policy, the preventative maintenance program for equipment, and the risk assessment records. Also reviewed was the drillship’s HIV/AIDS policies, accident register, employee training and competency records, emergency response plans, and waste management systems, among other important reports and records.
During the visit, the officers engaged in interactive sessions with the ship’s captain, the wells operations supervisor, and other employees, to inform them about the Ministry of Labour’s services. The aim of this exercise was to promote greater awareness and adherence to safety standards and emphasise the MoL’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights, health, and safety in the oil and gas sector, the release added.
