Lenroy Michael Forde, also known as “Biggie,” was on Thursday found guilty by a jury of the 2021 murder of Odingo Anthony Heywood. The verdict came at the end of a four-day trial before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Demerara High Court.

Prosecutors Alvaro Ramotar and Delon Fraser presented evidence that on April 21, 2021, Forde went to Heywood’s home at Drysdale Street, Charlestown, and there was an altercation between the two men. As it escalated, Forde pulled out a gun and shot Heywood, 25, 10 times in the back, leaving him dead at the scene.

The police investigation suggested the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two men over an alleged robbery involving a person known to the deceased. Multiple police and civilian witnesses testified during the trial.

Despite efforts from his attorney, Glendon Greenidge of Greenidge and Associates, Forde was found guilty unanimously by the jury. His sentencing is expected to take place at a later date.

Forde had been arrested just days after the killing. On April 24, 2021, police apprehended Forde while he was being transported by boat to Devil’s Hole in Region Seven. He had been in hiding, and an unidentified woman who was harbouring him was also taken into custody.

A wanted bulletin had been issued for Forde prior to his capture.
