Man jailed for four years on felonious wounding charge

Samuel Charles, 27, was on Thursday sentenced to four years in prison by Justice Peter Hugh after he pleaded guilty to the charge of felonious wounding. The charge stemmed from an incident on August 10, 2020, where Charles inflicted injuries on Leron Daniels.

During sentencing at the Demerara High Court, Justice Hugh explained that the typical starting point for such an offence was 12 years. However, due to Charles’s guilty plea, the sentence was reduced by four years, leaving him with eight. Additionally, since Charles had already spent four years in custody, the judge deducted that time, resulting in a final sentence of four years.
