The Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the Sebai Primary School, in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), will stage the 2nd edition of the Region #1 ‘One Guyana’ U-13 Boy’s Tapeball Cricket Championship from November 1st-15th.
The 26 participating schools from the three sub-regions are: (Matarkai) Port Kaituma, Port Kaituma Primary, Arakaka Primary, Canal Bank Primary, Sebai Primary, Baramita Primary, Falls Top Primary, Matthews Ridge Primary; (Mabaruma) Hobodeia Primary, Hosororo Primary, Hotoquai Primary, Barabina Primary, White Water Primary, St. Peter and Paul Primary, Mabaruma Primary, Yarakita Primary; and (Moruca) Karaburi Primary, Warapoka Primary, Santa Rosa Secondary, Waramuri Primary, Kamwatta Primary, Haimaracabra Primary, Santa Rosa Primary, Kwebanna Primary, Santa Cruz Primary, and St. Nicholas Primary.
According to the tournament regulations, schools that have migrants on their register must include a maximum of two on their respective teams. The three divisional winners will advance to the overall tournament final. The eventual champion will receive $300,000, while the runner-up and third-place finishers will pocket $200,000 and $100,000, respectively.
PTA Chairman Rodrigues said, “Our greatest satisfaction will be realised when all our efforts and investment become instrumental in producing national and international cricketers.
This competition will give our youths an opportunity to harness their cricketing skills, and hopefully they can go on from strength to strength.”
Additionally, IOM donated 10 fibreglass bats, 45 medals, as well as several trophies inclusive of the winner, runner-up, third place, most runs, most wickets, and man of the match accolades.
